A domain is your web address. You can either purchase your domain from Good Karma Host, or from any company that handles domain registration (also called a "Registrar"). You can also transfer your domain to GKH if it's held elsewhere and you'd like to keep all your services in one place.

However, having your domain registered through GKH is NOT a requirement for hosting here. In fact, there is an argument to be made that registering your domain at a different company is smart: you are not dependent on the goodwill of your host to maintain your internet address.  Unfortunately, not ever webhost operates with the same ethics, and some will hold your domain hostage if you run into conflict on other issues.

While the person named as domain registrant is legally the owner of the domain, in practice it's difficult to regain control of a domain when someone else has control of it. So be aware when you're selecting your contact info on a domain: only choose people you trust!
