| While Good Karma Host definitely backs up your website files (keeping daily, weekly and even monthly backups), it's still best practice to back up your own files regularly, especially when you prepare to make significant changes to your site. In fact, site backups are one of those areas where it's said "paranoia is cheap." Backup files cannot be guaranteed as they can become corrupted or broken at times, so having your own local backups makes good sense. Dreamweaver UsersIf you use Dreamweaver to work on your site, it's easy to pull all the files down to your local computer. Simply use the "Get Site" command and confirm you want to pull down the entire site. Click on the top folder in your site structure to select your entire site, and click the down arrow to get the site. You'll be asked to confirm your selection.
This will download all the files of your site to your local computer and you're ready to rumble! cPanel BackupsIf you'd prefer, you can also use your Control Panel to backup your site. While you cannot restore your entire site directly from a cPanel backup without your host's assistance, you will have a copy of your files you can use in the event you need it. You use the "Backup" option in your control panel. See a video of how to back up your site using your control panel's backup feature here. |
