Email Ports

Settings for email ports:

  • POP Port 110, Inbound (usually deletes email after downloading)
  • IMAP Port 143, Inbound (usually for syncing email between server, webmail, and multiple devices for access)
  • SMTP Port 25 or 587, alternate port, Outbound

Which should you use?

If you primarily access your email from a single computer, POP will be sufficient. If you need to have the same email available from multiple locations and/or webmail, IMAP is a better choice.

In determining SMTP port, the two provided work the same for GKH. We provide an alternate port because some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) block the default port, 25, in an effort to curb spam. If you have difficulty sending outbound mail from your hosted domain address, please feel free to open a support ticket for assistance. Some internet service providers have additional requirements for sending outbound mail and we'd be happy to help you troubleshoot. You can even try setting your outbound email (the SMTP part) to the same settings for your ISP email account, as this sometimes works.
